LASCWED is inviting you to discuss the negative effects of the Mercosur agreement on Europe and understand the repercussions that the agreement has had on European countries, industries, and economies. The objective is to delve into the specific challenges and concerns that have arisen as a result of the trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur bloc.
SPEAKERS:
Lis Cunha – Greenpeace
Lis is the trade expert at Greenpeace Germany, where she is the policy lead for the organisation’s work on the EU-Mercosur agreement. She has many years of experience on global economic justice issues, with a focus on supply chains and trade. She previously worked in the European Parliament and at the development NGO ActionAid.
Dr Chris O’Connell – Governance and Civil Society Space Advisor at Trócaire and former LASC Coordinator. Chris holds a PhD in Politics from the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University, where his research focussed on the influence of civil society on left-led governments in Latin America; and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship on the relationship between and responses to climate change, environmental degradation and contemporary forms of slavery. Chris has a longstanding interest in the impacts of trade and investment agreements, with a focus on the proposed EU-Mercosur deal.
